NYC: Freedom, Self-Responsibility, and Competition: Why a Free Trade Agreement Is a Gateway for Civil Society

The ACG will host a breakfast briefing with Dr. Matthias Heider, Member of the Bundestag (CDU).

Dr. Matthias Heider has been a member of the German Bundestag (CDU) since 2009 and a member of the CDU since 1983. He became Chair of the German-American Parliamentary Friendship Group in April 2018. In the Bundestag, he also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Energy Affairs and is a Deputy Member of the Committee on European Union Affairs. He currently serves on the Board of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, and he has several leadership roles within the SME Economic Association of the CDU and CSU (Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsvereinigung). Within the association, he is Chairman of the Federal Commission “Economy and Infrastructure” (since 2014), Deputy National Chairman of North Rhine-Westphalia (since 2013), and a member of the association’s Federal Board (since 2011). He has also been a member of the Board of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia since 2012. Before joining the Bundestag, Dr. Heider studied law at the University of Bonn and worked as a lawyer for DKR mbH and BDO Deutschland.
