The spread of COVID-19 and the ensuing global lock-down as governments try to slow the spread of the corona virus has tested individuals and institutions around the world. Since March of 2020, the ACG has stepped up its digital programming by hosting webinars and video discussions which bring together policy makers and thought leaders from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss some of the key issues shaping transatlantic relations in an unprecedented time. In addition to organizing events on its own, the ACG has also partnered with other organizations such as 1014 and Atlantik-Brücke to launch new series designed to reach beyond the ACG community.
The ACG regularly hosts a discussion with a journalist based in Germany on the topics making the headlines and shaping political discourse. On February 12, the ACG held a Kaffeepause with Stephan Detjen, Chief Correspondent for Deutschlandradio and Director of the Berlin Studio.
On February 6, the ACG hosted a follow-up discussion with Dr. Stefan Fröhlich, Professor of International Politics and Political Economy at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
The ACG regularly hosts a discussion with a journalist based in Germany on the topics making the headlines and shaping political discourse. On February 5, the ACG held a Kaffeepause with Malte Lehming, Opinion Writer for Tagesspiegel.
On January 25, the ACG and two dozen other transatlantic organizations kicked off the Road to Election series with a virtual discussion featuring two expert political advisors, Matt Gorman, Vice President of Target Victory, and Margie Omero, Principal at the Democratic polling firm GBAO, and moderated by Juliane Schäuble, U.S. Correspondent for der Tagesspiegel.
On January 24, the ACG hosted virtual discussion with CORRECTIV Editor-in-Chief Justus von Daniels, who was a member of the investigative team behind the story of the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) secret meeting with neo-Nazis and other like-minded individuals to discuss Germany’s migration policy and who should count as being German.
