The American Council on Germany will host a discussion and luncheon with Dr. Katarina Barley, German Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection.

Dr. Katarina Barley has been the Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection since March 2018, and she has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013. Previously, Dr. Barleyserved as acting Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, beginning in September 2017, and Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth, starting in June 2017. Dr. Barley also held the position of Secretary General of the SPD from 2015 to 2017, and she was the legal advisor to the SPD Parliamentary Group from 2013 to 2015. Before her time in the Bundestag, she worked as a judge at Trier Regional Court and Wittlich Local Court, and she was a lawyer at a major law firm. Dr. Barley earned her Doctorate in Law from Phillips-Universität-Marburg in 1998.
