Stefan Liebich has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2009, representing the Berlin district Pankow/Prenzlauer Berg/Weißensee. He serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and is the spokesperson for foreign affairs for The Left. Mr. Liebich began his political career in 1990 when he became a member of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) at age 18. In 1995, he was first elected to the Berlin House of Representatives. After being re-elected in 1999 and 2001, he became chairman of the PDS Berlin. He led the PDS Berlin to its first coalition with the Social Democrats, which governed successfully for ten years. Between 2002 and 2006 Liebich was the Group Chairman of the PDS in the House of Representatives and was re-elected in 2006. He became a member of The Left following the merger of the PDS and the Electoral Alternative for Labor and Social Justice (WASG) in 2007. Born in Wismar in the GDR in 1972, Mr. Liebich studied business economics with a focus on information systems at the Technical University in Applied Sciences in Berlin.
