Indianapolis: The Guns of August: WWI, German-American Lutherans, Religion and Immigration Issues Then and Now”

The Indianapolis Warburg Chapter, the Honorary Consul of Germany, and the Foundation for Lutheran Child Family Services, Indiana will host a discussion and luncheon with Dr. Giles Hoyt, Professor Emeritus of German and Philanthropic Studies and Director Emeritus of the IUPUI Max Kade German-American Research and Resource Center.

The diverse group of people with a German background faced a strong anti-German nativist wave stirred up by government propaganda against Germany in WWI. We will look at some of the issues then and draw possible parallels to questions facing American society today. Religion and tradition plays a role.
