Abstract: This talk will cover the role of Russia (and its predecessor USSR) in the European Union oil and gas trade, concentrating on the infrastructure links between the two which have lately been the object of so much contention within NATO and which are perceived to condition the policies of key EU countries, particularly Germany and Italy. It will also address the EU’s position as an energy importer in light of the renewal of US energy exports.
