Michael Kolz is a former German journalist who joined AT&T on August 1, 2020, as Executive Director and Head of External & Regulatory Affairs for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH). In this role, he is responsible for directing and coordinating government affairs matters for AT&T in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He works closely with the different business units to advance the global and regional policy objectives of AT&T and its operating companies in those countries. He also oversees legislative bill analysis, governmental and intergovernmental policy decisions, and market entry opportunities with a focus on the production and distribution of motion picture and television content, online piracy, the protection of intellectual property, and telecom and internet regulatory policy.
Before joining AT&T, Mr. Kolz was the Executive Vice President and Senior Anchor for PHOENIX TV (ARD/ZDF) in Germany, the main source for political news in the country. He hosted a nightly news hour covering current global and domestic affairs with a focus on politics, finance, and economics.
Mr. Kolz holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s Degree in Political Science, Law, and Psychology from the University of Kiel, Germany. He was awarded both RIAS and Arthur F. Burns Fellowships. He participated in the American Council on Germany/Draeger Foundation Young Leader Study Group on the Future of Europe. He was also an Atlantik-Brücke Young Leader and is a member of Atlantik-Brücke e.V.
