On September 26, Germans took to the polls in a historic election. Voters who have never known a Chancellor other than Angela Merkel voted for the first time. Change and continuity are both on the agenda and four political factions – the Social Democrats, Christian Democrats, Greens, and Free Democrats – are jockeying to form a new government and with it the chance to set German foreign and domestic priorities for a generation to come. Who will win out and where will the next governing coalition lead Germany?
Join the German Society of Pennsylvania and the American Council on Germany’s Philadelphia Warburg Chapter for an in-person conversation with German journalist and author, Martin Klingst, on German politics after Merkel.
The event will take place Thursday, October 14th at 7:00 pm at the German Society’s historic home at 611 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. Some parking is available, and the building is accessible by public transportation. The discussion will also be live-streamed for remote viewing.
