Dr. Adam Tooze is the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Professor of History at Columbia University, where he directs the European Institute. He is the author and editor of seven books, including Crashed: How a Decade of Financial Crises Changed the World, which was released in August. His research interests include modern German history with a special focus on the history of economics, and he is also the author of Statistics and the German State 1900-1945: The Making of Modern Economic Knowledge (2001). Professor Tooze formerly taught at Yale University, where he was Director of International Security Studies, and at the University of Cambridge. He has worked in executive development with several major corporations and contributed to the National Intelligence Council. He has written for publications including Foreign Affairs, The Financial Times, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, El País, Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tageszeitung, and Spiegel Magazine.
