The ACG will host a discussion with Thomas König, Director China at the German Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DIHK) and 2024 ACG McCloy Fellow on Global Trends.
Thomas König is Director China at the German Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DIHK), Europe’s largest trade association. He is co-author of the book “How to make it in China / “So Schafft Man China” (now in its third edition” and “China – Mastering business and everyday life / China – Business & Alltag meistern.” He has years of hands-on experience in China, including work at the European Chamber of Commerce in China and the world’s largest German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, which serves over 1,600 member companies. Previously, Mr. König served as Asia Program Coordinator at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in London and Paris and developed training programs for Chinese UN diplomats-in-waiting at the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva.
Mr. König is currently a Taiwan-US-Europe Policy Program Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and a McCloy Fellow on Global Trends from the American Council on Germany and is researching the nexus of US relations with China and Germany in Washington D.C. in Spring 2025. He holds degrees from Yale University and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and completed a bilingual semester at Peking University. Mr. König is currently teaching as a guest lecturer at the Center for Cultural Studies on Science and Technology in China at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin).
