Financial Stability in an Unstable World: A Central Banker’s Perspective

The American Council on Germany will host a discussion and luncheon with Professor Dr. Joachim Wuermeling, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Professor Dr. Joachim Wuermeling has been a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank since 2016. He is responsible for banking and financial supervision, risk control, and information technology. Prior to taking on his current position, Professor Dr. Wuermeling, who has a Ph.D. in Law, held a variety of executive-level posts in the financial and insurance industries as well as in politics. From 2011 until his departure for the Bundesbank, Professor Dr. Wuermeling was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Sparda-Banken in Frankfurt am Main. Prior to that, he was a member of the Executive Board of the German Insurance Association (Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft) for about three years. From 2005 to 2008, Professor Dr. Wuermeling was State Secretary for European Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology, where he was also responsible for coordinating European policy matters. From 1999 to 2005, he was a member of the European Parliament (CSU). Professor Dr. Wuermeling also is a lecturer on European politics at the University of Potsdam.
