The Impact of the ACG
While there are limited metrics to gauge the precise impact of the American Council on Germany's work, the Council is gratified by the growing networks achieved among its corporate members, individual members, Young Leaders, and fellows, as well as other participants in other activities. The ACG reaches thousands of people each year at events in New York, Washington, D.C., and around the United States at its Eric M. Warburg Chapters – in addition to occasional discussions in Berlin. The ACG attempts to cast an increasingly wider net by engaging with academic communities and other partner organizations to coordinate joint events above and beyond its Chapter meetings. The Council also endeavors to select Young Leaders and fellows who have the potential to serve as multipliers in the long term. The ACG has a strong track record in this regard, with an alumni roster that includes Christian Wulff, Federal President of Germany; Wolfgang Ischinger, former German Ambassador to the United States and to the United Kingdom; Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, the German Defense Minister; U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Chuck Schumer; and Richard W. Fisher, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
The ACG actively engages in ongoing dialogue with its members, particularly corporate members, to ensure that its programming reflects their needs and interests. The ACG’s Facebook page also builds a stronger community among program participants, cutting across disciplines and fields as well as international borders.
